Get in the Cage: UFC Fight Night Albany Quick Picks

Welcome to another edition of Get in the Cage for DFS Datalytics. This will be a quick picks article due to UFC 206 also taking place tomorrow night. Here, I will be breaking down who are some of the best options for both tournament and cash game plays. There are a lot of heavy hitters on this fight card, so good luck. Let’s Get in the Cage!

Tournament Plays:

Derrick Lewis – $9,100

Derrick Lewis is certainly a force to be reckoned with in the UFC heavyweight division. With Lewis, it is mostly knockout or be knocked out. He is 7-2 since entering the UFC in 2014. Every fight with the exception of one has ended in a knockout whether he won or lost. The exception was his previous fight with Roy Nelson. Nelson, in this fight, lied on top of Lewis for almost the entire fight. The judges ultimately awarded him with the victory because Nelson literally did not do anything except lay on Lewis. With that victory, Lewis has won four straight. Lewis is  a very accurate striker and will look for another quick finish this weekend. His opponent is tough, but if Lewis is able to keep the fight standing, someone is going down.

Francis Ngannou – $9,700

There is  another heavyweight bout tonight on Fight Pass. Francis Ngannou will take on Anthony Hamilton. Ngannou has some massive hands in his pocket and certainly has the ability to knockout anyone in the division today. He is 3-0 since entering the UFC a year ago. He has finished all three of his opponents in no later than the second round. He has proven that it does not take all that many strikes to take down an opponent. He has landed no more than 36 strikes i a given fight in the UFC. Ngannou has finished all eight of his professional victories. He will have a significant seven inch reach advantage will should help him record another knockout tonight.

Andrew Sanchez – $8,700

Andrew Sanchez had a very impressive debut in his last fight where he won the Ultimate Fighter. Sanchez dominated Khalil Rountree en route to a decision victory. He was able to take Rountree out six times (5 pts) and transition five times (3 pts). Sanchez is a world class grappler when inside the cage. He was a four time All-American in wrestling. He proved to be a very well-rounded fighter in his debut and will certainly look to keep things going as he moves down to middleweight. His opponent, Trevor Smith, merely has 55 percent take down defense. With the grappling skill set that Sanchez possesses, he could rack up some big points tonight on the ground. He has five career knockout victories as well. Facing someone who is not a heavy striker like Rountree was, Sanchez may remain on the feet a little more this time around.

Cash Game Plays:

Juliana Lima – $8,500

Juliana Lima is a fighter that has gone to decision in all four of her UFC bouts. She has gone 2-2 to date with the company. Lima is a -245 favorite against her opponent, JJ Aldrich, whom will be making her debut this evening. Lima has gone to decision in six of her eight professional victories. She is not overly priced on Draft Kings, and in my opinion, is nearly a sure thing to win. She has never been finished in her career and knows how to control a fight. It will likely be too much too soon for Aldrich, as she will set foot inside the octagon for the first time. Lima here is the definition of a cash game play if you are simply looking for a win with perhaps a few take downs.

Randy Brown – $8,200

Randy Brown too, will be facing  a UFC new comer tonight in Brian Camozzi. Brown is a very well-rounded fighter and should have the edge here tonight. He is an intelligent fighter and knows what he has to do to win. He was likely down on the cards in his last fight and went out and submitted his opponent almost immediately in the third round. Brown is not one to dish out a great deal of punishment, as he has not thrown all that much since entering the octagon. He, much like Lima is simply a very solid pick to win and hopefully help land you some quick cash on Draft Kings. Brown has been successful in finishing seven of his eight professional victories. He is dangerous both on the feet and on the ground.

Gian Villante – $8,800

Gian Villante is a veteran of the UFC and has eight fights under belt already. He also fought for Strikeforce prior to entering the UFC. Villante has a great deal of power and explosiveness. He too, will be facing a UFC rookie this evening, so nerves may come into play for his opponent. Villante is the taller fighter here, though will be at a slight disadvantage in reach. Nothing of significance, however. He has recorded three knockout victories in his time with the UFC. Look for him to likely keep the fight standing and potential finish with another impressive knockout. He is a -170 favorite according to Vegas.
