Week One of the NFL season begins next week. The roster and depth charts will be finalized over the next couple of days. I will be posting a Week One picks article next week prior to the weekend’s games. Today I am just writing a quick summary of some nice value plays that are enticing at this point. I will go into more detail and write up more players next week.
Let’s see what we got to work with!
Jared Goff ($6600 on FD, $4800 on DK) – This one is not for the faint of heart. Goff was not good in his rookie season…at all. There has been a build up of hype around the offense over the summer with new coach Sean McVay, a Todd Gurley resurgence and the acquisition of Sammy Watkins. Goff plays at home against the Colts who look like they will be a dumpster fire until Luck returns. The Colts also just lost their only good cornerback in Vontae Davis for a couple weeks.
Marshawn Lynch ($6900 on FD, $5300 on DK) – Lynch is coming out of retirement and joins a talented Raiders offense with one of the best lines in the league. From 2011-2014 he scored at least 11 rushing touchdowns every year. 2015 was plagued with injury and last year he didn’t play. Lynch is a good bet to hit pay dirt in one of the highest projected Vegas total games on the slate.
JacQuizz Rodgers ($6700 on FD, $4900 on DK) – Quizz will be stepping into what looks like a full workload in the opening week. Tampa Bay is a road favorite and will be travelling within Florida. In the five games he started last year, he never had less than 17 touches.
Larry Fitzgerald ($6400 on FD, $5900 on DK) – Fitz has over 100 catches in the last two years. He faces a Detroit defense that was bottom five last year in passing yards allowed. He has gotten off to fast starts the last couple years (Five touchdowns in first five games in 2016).
Robby Anderson ($5200 on FD, $3800 on DK) – If you are looking for a cheap WR to put in your lineup, Anderson may be your guy. The de facto number one WR on the Jets, Anderson will be pumped with targets Week One against a Bills defense that is shedding talent daily. Josh McCown is still a competent QB who can put up fantasy numbers before someone like Hackenberg takes over later in the year.
Austin Hooper ($4700 on FD, $3000 on DK) – Hooper is stepping into a larger role this year with Jacob Tamme gone. The Falcons tight ends combined for 788 yards and 10 touchdowns in an offense that didn’t use them all too much. That should change this year with the talent of Hooper entering his second year and coming on strong in the playoffs for the Falcons. He faces a suspect Bears secondary in Week One.
