CorsiHL’s Daily SMASHBOARD – January 31st, 2018

Overall Slate Outlook: Only three games tonight, and plenty of different ways to go. Ownership will be a concern on both the Leafs and Capitals, and perhaps even the Islanders as well.

Core Stacks (in no particular order):

NYI1: Bailey-Tavares-Lee, $20.3K: Leafs will be playing their first home game without the “shutdown line” tonight. NYI1 had a decent game last night and couldn’t find the back of the neck – you’ll get these guys at reasonable ownership tonight and they’ve got as much upside as anyone. Correlating D: Nick Leddy, $5,200

TOR1: Nylander-Matthews-Hyman, $17.1K: This may be the most popular line of the night. Not much to be said here – this is an elite scoring chance generating line playing against the worst defense at limiting scoring chances in the league. Correlating D: Connor Carrick, $3,500 and Nikita Zaitsev, $3,000

TOR2: Marner-Kadri-Marleau, $14.6: This was far and away the Leafs’ best line since the recent shuffling. They’re generating tons of offense (and allowing a bunch too) in the small time they’ve been together, and they allow you to pay up for another expensive stack tonight. Correlating D: Jake Gardiner, $4,700

WSH1: Ovechkin-Kuznetsov-Wilson, $18.2K: These guys smashed the Panthers in their one game together before the break, and they’ll see a lot of the Flyers’ second line tonight which is a plus matchup…this is also a fantastic PP matchup for the top PP unit featuring Ovie and Kuznetsov. Correlating D: John Carlson, $6,400

Secondary Stacks:

TOR3: vanRiemsdyk-Bozak-Brown, $13.2K: This stack is mostly about the PP1 exposure for JVR and Bozak…these guys have been consistent offensively all season, specifically JVR. They likely won’t see the ice time of TOR1 or TOR2 at 5v5 but they’re a great cheap way to get exposure to the most explosive game of the night. Correlating D: Jake Gardiner, $4,700

NYI2: Eberle-Barzal-Beauvillier, $17.2K: This has been the Islanders’ best line over the past month…they’re cheaper than the top guys but should see a worse matchup tonight against the Auston Matthews line. They tend to score in bunches, and have as much upside as anyone tonight. Correlating D: none

S.J1: Labanc-Couture-Meier, $15.1K: The matchup isn’t ideal at 5v5 against Frans Nielsen, but this is a great PP spot for Logan Couture and Kevin Labanc. The Red Wings are just a bad team, but they tend to play fairly low event at both ends of the ice. This is a contrarian mid-level play at best tonight. Correlating D: Brent Burns, $7,200

DET2: Athanasiou-Larkin-Bertuzzi, $15.0K: This has been Detroit’s best and only legitimate line for the past month. You won’t get great PP correlation here but on a smaller slate, they’ve got the upside to get you there in a pretty low-owned spot. Correlating D: none

PHI2: Simmonds-Patrick-Voracek, $14.3K: This line has not played together this year, but on paper, it could be a good one. Voracek is an elite distributor and Simmonds has been playing without a good one of those for the entire season. They’ll draw a plus matchup against WSH2 with Ovechkin and Kuznetsov at 5v5. Correlating D: Shayne Gostisbehere, $5,400
